Distancing himself from the move to scrap Class X board exam and abolish the state boards, Professor Yashpal said, "Though I had suggested a uniform examination pattern throughout the country, I did not recommend doing away with the state boards.” 

 While the HRD Ministry has made up its mind to replace the central regulatory agencies with an apex body committee to oversee the functioning of higher education system in the country, academicians seem to be divided over the issue. While some have hailed the move as a welcome course correction long overdue, others have questioned the logic behind such a measure.
