With the Director of Medical Education giving approval to establish three more medical and a dental college in Gujarat, the state is set to have 635 more seats, 500 medical and 135 dental. The chapter of Medical Council of India (MCI) had proposed the new medical colleges. 

 A dental college, styled as the Faculty of Dentistry, is coming up in Jamia Milia Islamia. The faculty, the ninth department in the university, offers cutting edge degree courses in the field of dentistry.

Medical Council of India renewed its permission to the Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences for the year 2009-10 on Tuesday.

While giving a go-ahead for to establishment of three more medical colleges in Gujarat, the Medical Council of India (MCI) announced 630 additional medical seats for the state from the current academic year.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to restore 40 more seats to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) for the 12th consecutive year for the academic year 2009-10. The MCI reached this decision after conferring with the Maharashtra government.

Only a Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized degree makes a candidate eligible for admission to a super specialty course, ruled Bombay High Court. The court cited the admission norms for post graduate medical and super-specialty courses while settling a petition filed by a few students.

NEW DELHI: The Medical Council of India has instituted a three-member-committee to probe into allegation that two private medical colleges in Chennai were found charging illegal donations to the tune of Rs 20 to 50 lakh for MBBS admissions.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister MRK Panneerselvam said the state was awaiting recognition of Medical Council of India (MCI) for two medical colleges, one in Tiruvarur and another in Villupuram.

With this recognition 200 more MBBS seats would be available to the state in the very first round of counseling.

An MCI team had carried on an elaborate inspection of these two colleges. The verdict of the team will be available by June-end. While addressing reporters, the minister hoped that both the colleges would be duly recognised.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has laid down that only students of 2008-09 batch are eligible to seek admission in medical and dental colleges. This guideline shuts the doors on those students who are looking forward to make a second attempt.
