IIM C starts course for Railways

KOLKATA: Now, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta will impart training to railway employees. The public sector staff is scheduled to undergo a crash course in management that will last for 18 months at the management institute.

Covering customary management themes, such as public policy, economics, human resources, management studies, behavioural sciences, operations management, marketing, ethics, finance and accounting and strategic management, the crash course the Railway Board of India has commissioned IIM, Calcutta to conduct includes a 12-week Executive General Management Programme for 60 Officers. The Railways has made the programme mandatory for Indian Railway Service Probationary Officers.

"The objective of this course is to give railway officers a management perspective on everything especially on how to manage such a huge organization like the railways...at IIM-C, we are able to provide excellent management training which is not possible for PSUs to impart. After the course is over, students outlook will change," B. Nag, Programme Director was quoted as saying.

The objective of the programme is to professionalize the management of the Railway Board.
