The proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) of Tamil Nadu will start functioning from this academic session at Tiruchi. The academic activities of the new IIM will begin from a temporary location called Magneto Hydro Dynamics campus on the premises of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
The IIM will keep on functioning here till the time a full-fledged infrastructure is ready on a 200-acre permanent site identified on Bharathidasan University premises.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is willing to accord a functional status to the IIM-Tiruchi.
The institute will be the sixth among the new IIMs set up by the Government of India in the XIth plan in the country.
The proposed IIM at Tiruchi will be mentored by the IIM-Bangalore.
