Another dissenting voice against introduction of sex education in school curriculum! The latest forum to oppose the government’s move is Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti. The Samiti, instead, called for provision to introduce chapters to help build character of the students.
The Samiti handed over a memorandum to a Rajya Sabha panel constituted to go into the question whether sex education should be introduced at school level. Bearing signatures of more than four lakh people from all over India, the memorandum alleged there was an attempt to introduce things that could adversely affect the impressionable minds.
Joint convener of the Samiti, Atul Kothari, informed that Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas too organized a symposium at Pune where a 12-member committee was formed to suggest a curriculum. He said its suggestions would be available soon..
The governments of 11 states have already given up the proposal to introduce sex education at school level. In the wake of widespread protests the Centre had formed a House panel to review the proposal.
