Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and has accorded recognition to some of them the madrassas. The university will integrate the Islamic seminaries with the varsity.
In an interview to PTI, AMU Vice-chancellor P K Abdul Aziz was quoted as saying, "To integrate madrassa with mainstream higher education, AMU has accorded recognition to around 300 prestigious madrassas in the country. Degree holders of the recognised madrassas are being given admission to various courses run by the institute."
The VC hoped that “the initiative would bridge the gap between the madrassas and the universities and will benefit thousands of students passing out from the centres of Islamic education."
The will also establish five higher education centres in minority dominated areas with an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore. A decision to this effect has been taken at the AMU's executive council.
