Fellowship at Indian Institute of Geomagnetism

The Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Navi Mumbai, a premier institute of the Department of Science & Technology engaged in fundamental research in Geomagnetism and its allied fields, has invited applications for Post Doctoral Programme (Nanabhoy Moos Research Fellowship). Applications to the fellowship are received throughout the year. Selections will be made as and when sufficient number of applications is received.
Selection Process :
Two-step process is followed for the selection. The eligible applications will be screened by an internal committee and the final selection through an expert committee. Each shortlisted candidate will make a presentation of the proposed research project before a committee consisting of external and internal experts, followed by an interview/discussion with the committee.
Eligibility: 
Ph.D. Degree in Geomagnetism/Solid Earth Geophysics/Space Weather/ Modelling of Sun-Earth interaction / Climatic Science. Candidates who have submitted their thesis or those who are about to submit their thesis can also apply but their selection will be subject to the condition that they would have received Ph.D degree before the expiry of the validity of the award offer.Candidate must be a citizen/permanent resident of India and should not hold any permanent position/employment.
Desirable : 
Applicants should have proven excellence by way of research publications in high impact factor peer reviewed SCI journals.Preference will be given to the candidates having minimum one year of research experience in a reputed institution other than the institution from where the candidate has done his/her doctorate.
Age Limit :
Upper age limit is 32 years that is relaxable up to 3 years in case of OBC and up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Woman/Physically challenged candidates.
Tenure of Fellowship : 
Two years. Further extension for a maximum period of one year may be granted to the NMR fellows based on their outstanding performance, recommendations by External Review Committee and Approval of Director, IIG.
Remuneration :
Consolidated fellowship of Rs. 60,000 per month shall be paid. In addition the NMR fellow shall be eligible for House rent allowance (HRA) as admissible under IIG rules. If accommodation is provided by the institute then no HRA will be paid. The NMR fellow shall be eligible for travel by Air and DA and others expenses as admissible to those with Grade Pay of Rs. 5400/-, along with air travel.
Research Grant :
Contingencies Grant of Rs.3.00 lakhs per annum to facilitate the proposed research shall be granted to NMR Fellow.
Place of Work:
Candidate may choose to work at any of the following centres of IIG:

  • Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Navi Mumbai, New Panvel (Head office)
  • Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, KSKGRL, Allahabad, (Regional centre) 
  • Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, EGRL, Tirunelveli, (Regional centre)

How to apply:
Candidate can choose to work under the supervision of experts working in the host institution i.e IIG. The chosen expert should be a permanent employee of IIG and should have relevant experience in the field of proposed research project (Letter of acceptance from host researcher is mandatory)
Candidate can also choose to work independently on the proposed research problem. The details of the scientists/experts working in IIG can be obtained from www.iigm.res.in.
Candidate should strictly follow the format for submission of the Research Proposal. Research Proposal should not exceed three pages (Font size 12,Times New Roman). Candidates should send duly filled-in Application Form, Research Proposal and Curriculum Vitae in prescribed format,along with required documents to the following address.
