Schools will get grants to improve education system in Kerala

The kannur district panchayat will annually grant Rs.25 lakh each to government schools that implement in an outstanding way the comprehensive education programme aimed at improving educational standards from primary to secondary levels.

The panchayat meeting held here on Monday decided to grant additional Rs.25 lakh each year to a school that effectively implements the programme. It also decided to hold a school-level workshops for the launch of the programme in the schools. The workshops will have participation of principal/headmaster, parent-teacher association, school management committee representative, school leader, grama panchayat president, and school-level co-ordinator concerned. The workshops are being organised to conceive clear perspective on the objectives of the programme to be implemented and the ways of its implementation in each school, a press release here informed.

District panchayat president K.V. Sumesh, who presided over the meeting, said that the programme was conceived as a major initiative to improve standards of education and infrastructure in schools. He urged each of the 24 district panchayat division members to take up the challenge of having to implement the programme in a school each in their divisions. The meeting also instructed officials to achieve 70 per cent execution of the panchayat’s annual plans by December and completion by February.
