International Education Week 2016 begins at Illinois State University

International Education Week celebrates the internationalization and diversity of Illinois State University by highlighting events, programs, and courses that enhance the globalization of our campus. International Education Week 2016 will be celebrated from October 8–14.This week-long celebration not only presents traditional events such as the Study Abroad Fair, International Seminar Series, and International Gala Night, but also new events which include forums of internationalization with Illinois State’s president, provost, deans, and selected faculty, staff, and students.

Adding an artistic touch to the week’s events, the School of Theatre and Dance presents Waiora, a captivating play surrounding a Maori family who migrated from the North Island’s east cape to the South Island and the opening scenes of two short plays, The Coffee Bar (an Egyptian play) andThe Walls (an Argentinian play).

Former ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and deputy permanent representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Feisal Amin Rasoul al-Istrabadi, who worked to help Iraq transition from a dictatorship to a democracy, will be the keynote speaker for International Education Week. This keynote event will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center.

The International Community Open House, on Monday, October 10,  presents the international opportunities available through campus departments and organizations as well as Bloomington-Normal community organizations.

The “Open Courses” invite students to sample international-themed courses on campus to expand their understanding of how to globalize their experiences.  Each of Illinois State’s six academic colleges will host receptions to honor their achievements and commitments to international education.

Unless otherwise stated in the linked program description on the university calendar, all events are free and open to the public. A buffet lunch will be provided for events during the lunch hour, and refreshments will be provided for other events
