Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is a government-aided institution that offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes in areas that are relevant to space science, technology and applications. The Institution was founded in the year of 2007 by ISRO under the Department of Space, Government of India. Here, we are providing the complete details about IIST Admission 2017 that includes eligibility criteria, exam pattern, admission procedure and all other details.

IIST 2017 Application Form

The IIST 2017 application form for UG, PG and Ph.D programmes will be available in May for PG courses and in June for PG courses. More details regarding application form is mentioned below.

IIST UG Application Form:

Candidates who apply for the UG courses, they will get the application form on the first week of June 2017 (tentative). The last date to fill the application form will be third week of June 2017 (tentative). Before registration, candidate must have their JEE Main 2017 or JEE Advanced 2017 roll number and a valid email id.

IIST PG Application Form:

The application form for PG programmes will be provided from the first week of May 2017 (tentative). If the candidate is eligible and want to apply for more than one course, then they have to submit separate application for each programme. Candidates who apply for the PG programmes can bring the printout copy of the completed form at the time of written test/interview.

Ph.D Application Form:

The application form for Ph.D programmes will be released in two times within a year for the January and July session. The application form for January session will be available in the first week of November 2016 (tentative). If candidate is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one department, then they have to submit separate application form for the respective department.

Application Fee

The application fee for UG and PG programmes is Rs.600 per department (Rs.300 per department for SC, ST, PWD and women candidates). The application fee for Ph.D course is to the extent of Rs. 250/- per Department code (Rs. 125 for SC/ST/PWD and Women). The application fee is non-refundable. Candidate can deposit the fee using bank challan from any branch of SBI and Union Bank of India on the next working day onwards, after the date of successful completion of Online Registration.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission in UG and PG programmes are mentioned below. Only Indian Citizens apply for the UG, PG and Ph.D programmes.

Age Limit:

For UG Courses, Candidates who belong to the GEN and OBC category must have been born on or after October 1, 1991. Candidates of SC, ST and PWD categories must have born on or after October 1, 1986.

For PG Courses, the age limit is 28 years as on 08 May, 2017. There is an age relaxation for the candidates who belong to the SC / ST / Persons with disability (PWD) category as per Government of India Orders.

For Ph.D prgrammes, Candidate age should be below 28 years as on 30th November 2016. There is age relaxation for reserved candidates as per Government Rules.

Minimum Qualification:

Those candidates want admission in IIST UG courses, they have to qualify their qualifying examination with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as a main subject. They have to secure at least 70% (60% Sc/ST/PWD) marks as an aggregate in the qualifying examination. Candidate has to secure minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2016 as given below:-

General Candidates: At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

OBC (Non Creamy Layer) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

SC/ST/PWD Candidates: At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)

For PG Courses, candidates have to pass their BE/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.S. or equivalent degree in first class with an aggregate minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 out of 10. A valid score is applicable in GATE/JEST/UGC NET in relevant area for which candidate apply.

The minimum qualification Ph.D programmes are mentioned below:

Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology: Candidates have to clear their Master degree in the relevant area and secure first class or equivalent marks. On the bases of GATE score, they must have pursued their Master’s degree. Applicants with Integrated Masters degree (or Dual Degree) in Engg/Tech from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 can be considered without GATE.

Master’s Degree in Science: Candidates have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s degree. They have to pass UGC/CSIR NET/JEST (or) GATE in the relevant areas.

Master’s Degree in Humanities: Those candidates have Master’s Degree in the relevant disciplines with first class or equivalent in their Master’s degrees. They have to clear UGC/CSIR NET -JRF in the relevant disciplines.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology: Outstanding candidate with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with an excellent academic record and aptitude for research may be considered for direct admission in the Ph.D. Programme. Such type of candidates  have secured CGPA of 9.0/10 or better and a valid GATE score of 675 or better. B.E./B. Tech candidates from IITs with CGPA better than 9.0/10 do not require GATE.
