Eighteen selected Guilford County schools will open their doors April 5 to the community, serve breakfast and host a talk about the challenges and opportunities each unique school faces as they seek to educate the diverse student population in the county.

It’s all part of Guilford Education Alliance’s annual Education Summit, an event designed to help the community, area businesses and local educators come together to see how they can form beneficial alliances to further the goal of providing every child with an education and a future.

Participating schools include: Andrews Aviation Academy, Archer Elementary, Aycock Middle, Brooks Global Elementary, Dudley High, Ferndale Middle, General Greene Elementary, Hunter Elementary, McNair Elementary, Middle College at N.C. A&T, Middle College at UNC-Greensboro, Montlieu Academy of Technology, Northern High, Northwood Elementary, Ragsdale High, The Academy at Lincoln, The Newcomers School and Western Guilford High.

Last year, GEA invited the community into schools for the first time and more than 300 people attended. GEA executive director, Winston McGregor, said the impact was immediate. “After the 2016 summit we had participants commit to supporting schools they visited in a variety of ways — from a church throwing a teacher appreciation luncheon to an individual donating 100 backpacks for children in need.”
