The Kerala High Court on Monday upheld the order of the Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges that the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by All India Management Association shall not be accepted for MBA admissions after May, 2016.
A Division Bench passed the verdict while dismissing a petition filed by two students from a self-financing college at Pathananamthitta challenging the order of the committee issued on June, 2016 holding that no entrance examination conducted by non-governmental agencies shall be accepted for admission to MBA courses except KMAT (Kerala) conducted by the Universities in Kerala, under the supervision of the ASC, CAT conducted by the Indian Institute of Management and CMAT conducted by the AICTE. The petitioners who were doing MBA course in the college under the NRI quotas also challenged the ASC order turning down approval of their admission in the course, holding that they were not duly qualified to get admission, as they had passed only the MAT.
Dismissing their petition, the court observed that the order of ASC was not assailable.
The court also observed that if the version of the petitioners that no ‘merit rating’ was required to be done in the case of NRI candidates was to be accepted, it would be totally alien to the scheme of professional education and the mandate given by the apex court as per the rulings rendered at different points of time.
