University admissions in Haryana through CAT

Various officials from the state of Haryana have declared on Tuesday that the admissions to all the universities in Haryana will be allowed only by conducting the Common Admission Test (CAT) by 2017. The Haryana higher education department implemented the decision of introducing CAT for University admissions after the meeting held at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani.

Kurukshetra University will be allocating candidates in subjects such as commerce, economics, management, social work, journalism, law, political science and public administration, English, Hindi, history, geography, physical education, and psychology departments based on the marks obtained in CAT. While giving admissions to the students, based on the score obtained in CET, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak will admit the students in following subjects such as  pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences -- including botany, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, environmental science and zoology -- chemistry, physics and mathematics.

Admission for all the Universities in Haryana will be completely based on the marks obtained in CAT Examination. The format for CAT examination is mainly based on multiple choice questions (MCQs) and wrong answers will have negative marking. After the CAT examination, there will be counseling for the successful students. Online counseling and the spot counseling both are available as a part of the admission procedure. Admission will not be given to those candidates who fail to appear for the CAT examination. This move has had mixed reactions from both students and parents since CAT is an examination of extremely high standards.
