IIT-D and other local ran for the Indian Road Safety Campaign in order to make people aware of the deaths which are caused by the road accidents every year in the world.

The purpose of the run was to promote the spirit of road safety among the people with the focus on speed. Speed contributes to around one-third of all fatal road traffic crashes in high-income countries, and up to half in low- and middle-income countries.

The marathon was named as 'Run for a cause' and was organized by the IIT-D students in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Delhi Traffic Police. The marathon was organized as part of the Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week.
