Come January and you will have to pay your child's school fees online.
As per a Central Board of Secondary Education circular from secretary Joseph Emmanuel, all affiliated schools have been told to collect fees online or through other cashless modes from January 2017.
Not just this, the board has directed schools to disburse the salary to their staff through direct bank transfer.
The directives are expected to reduce the cash burden on the board and its affiliated schools. They are also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's push for a cashless economy.
According to the circular, schools have to make all payments online. This includes wages to contractual workers, procurement of goods and services.
The board wants schools to interact with parents during the Parents Teachers' Meeting (PTMs) to make them aware about the benefits of cashless transactions.
The circular says schools should motivate senior students to promote benefits of cashless transactions in their neighbourhood.
Schools can organise various programmes such as workshops, seminars, competitions to create awareness on digital transactions and help students and their parents cultivate the habit of making payments digitally/online.
