NEET 2017: KEA issues notification regarding admissions

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has issued the notification regarding the admissions for medical courses through the NEET 2017 exam. Students who wish to pursue medical and dental courses are required to qualify in the NEET examination which is conducted by CBSE. From the year 2017-18, KEA will not conduct entrance examination for admission to medical and dental courses. The CET exam will be as usual for Karnataka students for others like Engineering, ISMH, Farm Science, Bv.SC and Pharma courses. Candidates who qualify in the NEET exam from the Karntaka state are eligible to select Medical or Dental seats based on the NEET score. KEA will prepare the merit list based on the NEET score and allot the government quota seats of Medical and Dental to the eligible candidates.

The allotment for the candidates will be done on the basis of the merit list which will be prepared by KEA and the same merit list will be applied for allotmnent of seats for government share to medical and Dental courses. In order to be eligible for NEET 2017 exam, the aspirants must have passed or appearing in 2017 for class 10+2 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-Technology (PCB) subjects with requisite percentage as per their category. The NEET will consists of total of 180 questions in four subjects, Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Botany (45) and Zoology (45). Candidates will need to answer 180 questions in 180 minutes in a single sitting. Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks and for each wrong answer 1 mark is deducted from the marks earned. 

The exam is held in the 1st week of May and is conducted by CBSE board. NEET Rankings are used for admission to – Government Medical and Dental Colleges in Karnataka (85% seats), Private colleges having government quota in Karnataka, government medical and dental colleges in rest of India (15% seats) and IISc. The syllabus of NEET will include the class X1 and XII syllabus of CBSE. In all the four subjects there is equal weightage for 1st PU/Class XI and 2nd PU/Class and X11 hence students must not ignore or forget what has been taught in class XI.
