Nine colleges get research centre status

Three colleges in GB Nagar and six in Ghaziabadhave been designated as 'university research centres' for different disciplines by the APJ Abdul Kalam University (AKTU), where the varsity students will carry out PhD research projects.

Under the university's research scheme, it will also fund interesting research ideas depending on the productivity of the project, officials said.

The colleges in GB Nagar are Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jaipuria Institute of Management, JSS Academy of Technical Education, while those in Ghaziabad are IMS College of Engineering, Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology, ABES Engineering College, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology and KIET School of Pharmacy.

'These colleges have been chosen on the basis of the availability of infrastructure for carrying out particular type of research in different fields. This is the first of its kind of an initiative at the university and colleges have been evaluated on a set criteria including equipment, curriculum, faculty, etc,' Virendra Pathak, AKTU spokesperson, told TOI that the university has taken approval from the finance committee for granting funds upto a sum of Rs 5 lakh for those research projects which the authorities find productive and feasible.

'We have asked colleges to send proposals to the university. After a committee examines the projects for their quality, a maximum of Rs. five lakhs will be sanctioned for the particular project,' Pathak said.
